ART SG and S.E.A. Focus to Lead Singapore Art Week’s 15th Edition

ART SG returns to Marina Bay Sands for its fifth edition alongside S.E.A. Focus, marking a key highlight of Singapore Art Week 2027 with a focus on Southeast Asian contemporary art.

ART SG, presented by Founding and Lead Partner UBS, is set to return to Marina Bay Sands, Singapore, for its fifth edition from 22 to 24 January 2027. The event will open with a VIP Preview and Vernissage on 21 January. Over the past four years, ART SG has served as a meeting point for galleries, artists, collectors, and institutions from Southeast Asia and the Indo-Pacific, attracting an international audience to Singapore, according to Magnus Renfrew, Co-founder of ART SG.

A fixture of Singapore Art Week, ART SG’s fifth edition builds on the previous year’s collaboration with S.E.A. Focus at the fair, as well as new and strengthened partnerships. Jin Yee Young, Co-Head UBS Global Wealth Management Asia Pacific and Country Head UBS Singapore, stated that UBS is proud to present the fifth edition of ART SG as Founding and Lead Partner, and to support the return of the ART SG FUTURES Prize Presented by UBS for its second iteration.

The ART SG FUTURES Prize, which had its inaugural edition in 2026, will return in 2027. UBS continues its sponsorship of this prize, which provides a platform for emerging artists, champions creative excellence, and spotlights the craft of contemporary artists across the region. Beyond the prize, UBS also supports the wider art ecosystem through its “Art for All” community initiatives at the UBS Art Studio, inviting the public to experience art in meaningful ways and increasing public engagement and awareness about art.

Commissioned by the National Arts Council, S.E.A. Focus will return to Marina Bay Sands alongside ART SG for the second consecutive year. This arrangement offers visitors seamless access to both events. The integrated format is designed to deepen connections between Southeast Asian artists, galleries, collectors, and the global art community, while maintaining S.E.A. Focus’s distinctive curatorial vision that spotlights the region’s contemporary art.

S.E.A. Focus is curated by John Tung and will centre around the theme "Better Worlds." The exhibition brings together artistic practices that explore contemporary life within an increasingly connected world. As technologies advance and networks of exchange expand, individuals and communities are presented with new opportunities to connect, participate, and engage across systems of unprecedented reach and complexity.

John Tung, Curator of S.E.A. Focus, explained that "Better Worlds" begins with the question of what kind of world we want to create as our lives become more connected. He noted that artists have a unique ability to look beyond the systems and structures we take for granted, revealing both their possibilities and contradictions.

Through the perspectives of artists from across Southeast Asia, S.E.A. Focus invites audiences to consider how technology, exchange, and human connection are reshaping contemporary life. The exhibition encourages visitors to imagine what better, more meaningful ways of living together might look like, reflecting on the evolving nature of society in the region.

Why it matters

The return of ART SG and S.E.A. Focus to headline Singapore Art Week highlights Singapore’s growing role as a centre for contemporary Southeast Asian art. By combining these events at Marina Bay Sands, organisers provide a unified platform that enhances accessibility and engagement for artists, collectors, and the public. The focus on emerging talent through the ART SG FUTURES Prize and community initiatives by UBS further enriches the art ecosystem, supporting creative development and public appreciation of contemporary art in the region.
