Christie’s 20th/21st Century Autumn Auctions in Hong Kong took place from 29 to 30 September 2026. The sales realised a total of HK$956,533,000 (US$121,918,767). This figure was 116% above the low estimate and represented a 17% increase compared to the previous year, according to Christie’s official results.
The Day Sales segment of the auctions maintained strong momentum, achieving a 92% sell-through rate by lot. The hammer price for the Day Sales reached 130% above the low estimate, indicating robust demand for the works offered during this portion of the event.
Collectors from 36 countries participated in the auctions. Buyers from Greater China and Southeast Asia led the participation, highlighting the regional interest in 20th and 21st-century art. This broad international engagement contributed to the overall success of the sales.
A notable trend was the involvement of a new generation of collectors. Millennials and Gen Z accounted for 30% of the new buyers at the auctions. This demographic shift points to a growing interest in art collecting among younger participants, as reported by Christie’s.
The 20th/21st Century global sales series by Christie’s is ongoing, with upcoming auctions scheduled in London, Paris, and New York. Additionally, a sale in Shanghai is planned for 13 November 2026. These events continue to expand the reach of Christie’s contemporary art auctions across major international markets.
